Feminist Fiscal Workshop 27/5/2024 al 27/6/2024

The Foro del Sur Foundation hosted the Feminist Taxation Workshop, which aims to discuss with political, social, and union organizations the links between fiscal policy decisions and gender justice. The activity is jointly organized by the Latin American Team for Justice and Gender (ELA), the Civil Association for Equality and Justice (ACIJ), Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES), Fiscal Work Space for Equity (ETFE), Civil Association for Feminist Economy (Ecofeminita), Fundar, Center for Legal and Social Studies (CELS), Initiative for Human Rights Principles in Fiscal Policy, and the Latin American Network for Economic and Social Justice (Latindadd).

The workshop the following topics, among others:

What does the state spend on? What are its priorities? Is it true that "there's no money"? What do we mean when we talk about feminist fiscal justice? What tools do organizations have and/or are able to use to promote gender justice in fiscal policy? How do public spending, taxes, and public debt impact gender inequalities? What strategies can organizations develop to incorporate fiscal issues into their agendas? What obstacles exist?

Fiscal Policy and Public Spending

What is fiscal policy? What are its objectives? What does the state spend on? Does that spending have a gender perspective? What tools do organizations have to monitor public spending?

Taxes and Tax Expenditures

How is the tax system structured? Why do we say it has gender biases? What are tax expenditures or exemptions? What examples exist of tax policies with a gender perspective?

Public Debt

What is the link between public debt and the lack of budgets with a gender perspective? Is there any connection between public debt, household debts, and gender inequalities?

Human Rights Principles

What do the National Constitution, laws, and treaties say about the link between fiscal policy and human rights? Are there cases where these principles and obligations have been applied? The case of the INAM budget. The elimination of VAT in Colombia.
