Negotiation and Gender Workshop

During the month of October, the Foro del Sur Foundation together with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation organize the “Experiential Workshop on Negotiation and Gender for trade union women”, driven by Florencia Brandoni and Andrea Finkelstein.

The workshop fundaments, on the one hand, on the observation that within the union sphere there is no task that does not require arguing, negotiating, and managing conflict situations for its development. On the other, it is noted that gender issues have an impact on the processes within each organization, posing hard challenges for women who interact in a world in which the rules of the game and meanings have already been instituted by men. This is so when tasks and responsibilities are promoted as characteristic of each gender, valuing them in a different way, which translates into an unequal distribution of power and authority between women and men.

Therefore, taking into account both situations, the Workshop aims to provide theoretical and practical tools that allow identifying and understanding the implications of gender issues in daily negotiations. Among the objectives, it aims to promote: a) the incorporation of the gender perspective in daily negotiations in the exercise of leadership and in collective bargaining; b) awareness of the importance of preparation for a successful negotiation; c) the achievement of “development negotiations” that empower women both in achieving goals and in generating new opportunities and strengthening relationships; and d) the promotion of tools to deal with difficult or uncomfortable conversations.

Among the women who have already participated in it are representatives from the Institute for Equal Opportunities (IPLIDO) of the Union of Tourism, Hotel and Gastronomic Workers of the Argentine Republic (UTHGRA), the Travellers Vendors from Argentina Association from the Industry, Commerce and Services. A.V.V.A, Morón; Union of Tourism, Hotel and Gastronomic Workers of the Argentine Republic -UTHGRA San Martín; State Workers Association- ATE; Metallurgical Workers Union –UOM; Union of Textile Employees of the Industry and Related of the Argentine Republic, SETIA Vicente López; San Fernando Workers Association, AGOEC; Environmental Conservation Personnel; Unified Union of Education Workers of the Province of Buenos Aires SUTEBA; Union of Pastry Workers, Quick Services, Confectioners, Pizza Makers, Ice Cream Makers and Alfajoreros - STPCPHyA; Argentine Union of Television, Audiovisual, Interactive and Data Services; National Civil Personal Union; UPCN and Union -SGBATOS-; Greater Buenos Aires of Sanitary Works Workers, among others.
