WORKSHOP CYCLE ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND URBAN RESILIENCE 16/4/2019 al 13/5/2019

Climate change is one of the most complex problems that humanity must face, both for the multiple disciplines involved as well as for the various interests and opportunities it presents.

Taking this problem into account, the Foundation organized a training cycle between April and May 2019 with the aim of providing concrete tools that contribute to the achievement of a sustainable future.

The call, originally aimed at the general public, aroused special interest in officials from the government, national, provincial and municipal sectors, members of the private sector of companies related to or directly or indirectly linked to climate change, non-governmental organizations and teachers or researchers from the academic sector.

SPEAKERS

Rodrigo Rodríguez Tornquist, Gabriel Blanco, Agustina Besada, Andrés Pizarro, Laura Cruz and Pablo Vazano

COURSE PROGRAM

Module 1

Leadership in Sustainable Development and Urban Resilience

Dictated by Rodrigo Rodriguez Tornquist

Review of human, environmental and technological mega trends, and a possible approach to sustainable development. Why is this model unsustainable? How do we prepare to lead the change?

Module 2

Mitigation and adaptation to climate change

Dictated by Gabriel Blanco

Scientific aspects of climate change and identification of issues related to climate change management, at the national, sub-national and local levels. Analysis of the proposed national approach to meet the mitigation and adaptation goals presented in the national contribution, and the sectorial action plans that nurture them.

Module 3

Strategies for a circular economy in cities

Dictated by Agustina Besada

The consumption of natural resources has grown to levels that exceed the capacity of re-generation of the planet, and at the same time produces excessive amounts of waste and pollution. The circular economy poses a new economic/productive model in which the efficient use of resources is guaranteed, minimizing economic or material waste.

Participants were approached with the notion of systemic-thinking, considering the flows of matter and energy in urban areas, to identify opportunities to optimize resources and design circular strategies to achieve it. General aspects of the circular economy were covered: principles, benefits and systemic-thinking, as well as strategies and successful cases applied in cities such as redesign of food systems, optimization of production processes and recovery of value in waste.

Module 4

Planning for sustainable urban mobility

Taught by Andrés Pizarro, Laura Cruz and Pablo Vazano

Basic and concrete knowledge about sustainable transport and policy and technology options to address each of the elements of transport sustainability. In the first meeting, the definition of sustainable transport and its importance in achieving the objectives of sustainability were presented. Likewise, the highlights of this agenda were developed with case studies and successful experiences on:

Pollution and climate change;

Road safety and physical security;

Equity and accessibility;

Quality of life in cities;

Energy / transport ratio.

In the second meeting, discussion was focused on the international agendas that involve the transport sector and technological advances that change the way of managing and delivering transport services, for example:

Paris Agreement

2030 SDG Agenda

Big Data, Internet of things, MAAS

Autonomous vehicles and shared mobility
