International Coffee with José Botafogo 8/4/2016
On Friday April the 8th, the Foro del Sur Foundation convened a restricted group of officials, diplomats and representatives of the private sector to participate in a meeting with Ambassador José Botafogo and the President of the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI), Rafael Benke. On that occasion, the new challenges that Argentina and Brazil face in terms of regional integration and the possibilities of strengthening MERCOSUR through new strategic agreements were discussed.
JOSÉ BOTAFOGO GONÇALVEZ
Lawyer, Diplomat, Brazilian university professor and politician. He exercised functions in Moscow, Vatican, Rome, Santiago de Chile, Paris, Bonn and Milan. He was Vice President of Foreign Affairs of the World Bank in Washington (1985-87). Minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (1998) and Minister of Tourism in Brazil (1998). Special Ambassador for MERCOSUR Affairs (2001) and Brazilian Ambassador in Argentina (2002-04).
He is Vice President Emeritus of CEBRI.
RAFAEL BENKE
Lawyer from the Curitiba Law School, Master in Law from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, Master in Law from the University of Warwick. He has experience in the area of Law and is specialized in Law and International Negotiations. He was also Global Head of Corporate Affairs for the company Vale and Team Leader for Natural Resources of the E-15 Initiative (WEF and ICTSD).
He is currently the President of CEBRI.
