INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE WITH FRANCISCO FONSECA MORILLO
In 1995, the Foro del Sur Foundation invited Francisco Fonseca Morillo, Director of the Office of the European Commission (EC) in Spain to its cycle Coffee with Ideas. The purpose of the meeting was to share his experience and career as an executive of the European Union.
Francisco Fonseca Morillo is a Doctor of Law from the University of Valladolid and holds a degree in Political Science and Sociology from the Complutense University of Madrid. He is professor of Public International Law on leave of absence from the University of Valladolid. Francisco Fonseca has been working with the European Commission since 1986, assuming different positions in the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs and within the cabinet of the former Commissioner for Justice and the Interior, Antonio Vitorino. Previously, he had participated in the negotiation of the Maastricht and Amsterdam treaties, as well as in the convention that drew up the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. He was Director of the Representation of the European Commission Office in Spain between 2009 and 2015, the year in which he returned to Brussels as Deputy Director General for Justice and Consumers. In September 2018, he returned to Madrid, again as Director of the Office of the European Commission in Spain. He has participated in the preparation of many academic works on community law and the European Union, and is the author of numerous publications.
